Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon is a competition that brings together subject matter experts, designers, and developers to solve problems related to a specific topic. In this case, the topic is our ocean.

Who can participate?

High school students, college students, and professionals.

Why "hack," though, isn't that bad?

Not in this context, no. Here we use "hack" to mean "to tinker with" and to rapidly prototype ideas an solutions. We use the time limit to encourage participants to focus on implementation and not get bogged down by details.

Is this "Bring Your Own Hardware?"

Yes. However, last year we had success with a "shared hardware" table, so we encourage participants to bring hardware (Arduinos, etc) to share with the participants at large. Outside of that, bring whatever you think you need to spend a fun weekend in a beach community!

How do I get here?

Endicott College is best accessed by car, although people do travel from the Montserrat Commuter Rail stop. You can find directions on the Endicott website.
